Consultant Profile - John Macy

John Macy is the Founder and Managing Director of Competitive Edge Technology Pty Ltd.  He is involved in all consulting assignments and brings to the table a wealth of knowledge and experience in HR. 

For the last few years John has been involved with the Jeitosa Group International, with headquarters in San Francisco, helping set up their international operation in the Asia Pacific region and working on assignments in the USA including the Hyatt Group in Chicago during 2008 and HSBC in Mexico in late 2009. He is now focusing on CET's Australian consulting practice and devloping a component assembly application on Salesforce.com's Force.com development platform. The Best Fit Anayzer product is an online HRMS selection tool and the HCM Mashup Builder is the corner stone for developers of HCM applications on the Force.com platform. He has also developed a collaborative Wiki on Atlassian's Confluence platform to support HCM Mashup Builder developers.
Experience
Prior to forming Competitive Edge Technology in 1994, John was a senior manager in the Human Resource branch at Qantas Airways. During his 24 years with Qantas he participated in the design, development and implementation of their global HRIS. His roles at Qantas included remuneration management, resource planning, and HR information management.
As CET's principal consultant he has completed assignments in the USA, Singapore, China, Malaysia and Thailand. He has worked for clients as an independent consultant alongside teams from major HR consulting companies and played a lead role in a multi-million dollar project for some of the world’s largest companies.
His knowledge of HR business requirements, product capabilities, process modelling and project management contributes greatly to any HRMS project and the application of CET's tools, templates and library of infromation saves a massive amount of valuable project time
John offers a combination of advice, hands on assistance and the ability to mentor project team members. His HRMS product knowledge and experience includes the new Workday product, SAP, PeopleSoft, Oracle and most of the larger Australian products including Aurion, CHRIS and Neller.
He designed and published the draft HR-CSAS component product standard for HRMS development and set up the Global Component Exchange in 2002 to collect and share information about HRMS products throughout the world.
He is a contributing author to the CCH Australian Master Human Resources Guide and has written several books on the HRMS subject. He is also one of the contributing authors to the book “21 Tomorrows: HR Systems in the Emerging Workplace of the 21st Century”. His article “Component-Based Technology for the Next Decade” earned wide acclaim and was published on the International Association for Human Resource Management’s (IHRIM) web page. He has presented at over 100 conferences and seminars world-wide during the last 10 years and has had many articles published in magazines in the USA and Australia, including the prestigious IHRIM Journal
John’s involvement with the HRMS industry includes participation with the AHRI’s (Australian Human Resource Institute) HRMS network group, the Editorial Committee of IHRIM and as Chairperson of the IT/27 Standards Australia Committee, that developed the AS 4590 Data Interchange Standard used extensively by government and private industry
