ABOUT THE HR FUNCTION - B3.8 Administer Employee Stock Purchase Program

During the late 1990s and early 2000s, employee share ownership was seen as a cost-effective employee benefit and an extremely positive motivational strategy. The issue of company stock/shares was quite common, especially in North America. An HRIS may have a component to facilitate recording of stock ownership. Information may include the type of stock item, price, date of purchase, period of time it must be held, the amount of stock an employee is eligible to purchase and details of funds used to purchase the stock. Information is often cross-checked with employee position, length of service, and other stock purchase eligibility criteria.
Note that some countries use the term "share purchase" rather than "stock purchase".
